Artifact Journal

I chose this artifact because it kind of reminded me of how I thought as a young kid.  The rhetor of this piece of writing is clearly a younger child most likely below the age of ten.  I can remember like it was yesterday when all I used to care about was just being around other kids.   I personally enjoyed that sense of community and it is apparent that this child does as well.  The child states that they “would rather live in a high population because there will be more kids to play with.”  I believe that the child’s audience may have just been anyone who would come across this note and read it.  It doesn’t seem like it was written specifically to anyone but rather it seems like it is the answer to a question that had been asked of the child.  When the child writes the word “rather” I see it as a sign that they have learned something about themselves.  Learning is when you are consciously aware as you are retaining something and it appears to me that this child has learned that they prefer to be surrounded by more people rather than less because more people would increase the likelihood of there being more kids their age to play with.  I felt kind of connected to this particular piece because I remember I was asked a question very similar to the one this child was most likely asked at a young age and I replied almost exactly the same way.  In my community I had learned that my foundation was based off of the people that surrounded me and at that particular young and naïve part of my life, I just wanted to be around a lot of people like me.
