The artifact that I chose is of
these kittens with a short note attached.
I can infer from the conclusion that the writer or rhetor of the note is
a foster mother, probably of children, and the image of the kittens is a symbol
of her love. The note gives the reason
for the mother giving the inferred children to a new home. The discourse surrounding this text is
unknown because of the uncertainty of the foster mother and the child or
children. The rhetor, the mother, gives
the exigence to the child or children that they are not going to a new home
because she doesn’t love them, but because she does. The mother underlined the word “not” and “do”
which I think puts an emphasis on those words and makes them stand out to really show the love she has. The
rhetor gives a clear and to the point statement that the audience, the child or
children, will understand. The mother
has constraints on what she can say because it is on a small picture. She had to keep it short but still get her
message across. She even left a space in
the writing to show the face of the mother cat in the picture. I think this shows that she really cares and
truly does love them. One small space
can make a difference. The
mother added her own remix with the underlining and spacing, and I believe it
is effective. The symbol of the kittens
and the mother cat show the love and compassion that the foster mom has for her
children. The writing and the picture
both add context to each other, and give the big picture.
