What do you want? by Tony Miele
As simple as it sounds, I chose this piece of work because I thought I could relate to it. Now despite the clumpy and confusing choice of language, and if you couldn't already notice, the grammatical errors, this note really lashed out to me. As stated in the bio, it was found in the teen section of a library. I realize that this human being couldn't have been more than a preteen or so due to their wholehearted attempt to spell 'syco', yet I realized that they were delivering a true message. I believe that this human being was, by the careful handwriting, a girl. I apologize by referring to her as just another human being but I hadn't explained my reasoning behind her suspected sex. I believe that she portrayed her personality through her diction as well as grammatical errors. But more so through the message she was sending. You can tell that she is a distressed young teenager who is simply trying to find where she belongs. Personality is one of the key concepts that we must learn to communicate through our writing and I believe this course has taught us to do just so. Through our first project where we narrated our past, this course has opened my eyes to expressing myself, rather than solely the information. This young girl does exactly that. She explains that we all hate the feeling of want. We all want something in this life which we don't always get, and she lets us know how much she dislikes the urge. Her question, "ya' know?": leads me to believe that she wasn't writing this to anyone in particular. She is writing towards the society that she is surrounded by and is hoping that someone agrees with her. I am fond of this young girl's personality and her expression of language. Kudos to her and her puerile realization regarding the inescapable urge to want.
