Racism has been one of the main reasons that our country has been split up or been put in shaky situations. It dates back hundreds of years to when people were made slaves just because of the color of their skin and when whites and blacks were separated in a lot of ways from simple things like different water fountains to completely different schools. Now we all know and say that it is wrong to judge people because of their race, but do people actually believe that everyone is 100% equal? Many people in Baltimore do not think there is equality most recently because of the police incident where a black male was killed by some white police officers that were too brutal. Since then there has been many riots and acts of rebellion to get their point across. One of the fastest ways to get word spread to a lot of people is the use of social media. People started using the hashtag #BaltimoreUprising to post tweets or pictures all letting people outside of their city to see what was going on. There are many pictures of people in mobs either standing up to the police or just showing people how hard it is for them to live in a place where they feel like they are afraid of the people that are supposed to be there to protect them. The use of the hashtag was a very affective way of spreading the word. This article teaches me how powerful writing can actually be when something as small as a hashtag can make such a big impact on such a large group of people for an issue as big as this.
