#BlackGirlsMatter

Throughout history, people have been discriminated because of their gender and race. There has much progress made to stop these kinds of discrimination. Imagine discriminated for both race and gender at the same time. This is how the #BlackGirlsMatter came into existence. Black Girls were being mistreated and faced harder discipline than other students. “White girls were suspended six times more than white female students”(AAPF). Black girls have been treated unfairly because they fall into two categories that people mistreat. “Black girls describe zero tolerance schools as chaotic, where discipline is prioritized over educational achievement”(Girls Leadership). This is insane. Discipline should not be focused on more than student education. I believe that all people are equal and people should not be treated differently due to race, gender, or both. The hashtag black girls matter is important because it has raised awareness on this matter. People often overlook stories they here in the news because it does not pertain to them. Others listen closely and make it a goal for people to know what is really happening. Twitter and other social media sites have allowed for people to spread the word about the discrimination of black girls. There has been hundreds of posts on twitter from people using #BlackGirlsMatter, which has helped to spread the word.  Writing is important because it helps to bring awareness to things. For example, Writing has brought awareness about the discrimination of black girls and black women. This hashtag was interesting to me because today was the first time I have ever seen it. #BlackGirlsMatter caught my attention and now I am better educated on the topic of the Discrimination of black girls.
