#IWD2015

#IWD2015 is a recent hashtag that has swept the nation and gone viral on twitter. IWD stands for International Woman's Day, a day intended to honor and empower woman all around the world. Woman often do not get the respect and acknowledgment that they deserve so through twitter, people have decided to globally recognize them for all that they have done. For example, Joan Jett challenged a certain stereotype concerning woman and the rock image. She became an international rock star, changing this view of the common woman and many people are now able to recognize this from a tweet. Because of this hashtag, people are also discussing todays rape culture, raising awareness and hopefully stepping toward the direction of ending this terrible act of violence that is now happening so often. Twitter is widely known as a way for people to convey their thoughts and emotions through 140 characters of text for all of their followers to see. You could say that this is certainly a very popular way of writing in this generation. After reading these tweets, it really opened my eyes and showed me how big of a deal feminism actually is and how many people serve as advocates daily for this cause. On twitter, users are able to quote and retweet texts that they agree with. Because of this tool, they are able to spread messages much quicker and farther. Through the expression of adults, teens, and children of both genders this viral twitter hashtag has taught me that through writing, we can create awareness and make changes that could impact thousands of woman’s lives.
