Group 6 Conference

In our conference meeting, we each read our segments to each other while thinking of feedback to give. When we finished reading our journal segments we spoke to eachother about how we thought that the segment could be better. Each person in the group said one or two things per segment and after that, Joe provided us with constructive criticism about how we could improve our journal segments. He had very good advice about thinking where we read or heard the certain piece of writing that influences us and trying to use those scenes to our advantage in our journal segments.

Jake Stein read his segments first. Both of which involved family and friends. His first segment was the book, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. He explained how he related himself to the main character, Ponyboy Curtis, because he felt like they had similar problems in their lives at the time he read this book. The second segment involved Don Corleone, the main character of the Godfather, who he related to because of his love for his family. Don Corleone stated “A man who doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man”. This quote touched him because he realized that after everything in life, your family is the only group of people who will always be there for you no matter what.

Nick Vaccaro read his journal segment after that. He was touched by the song Hey Mama by Kanye West. This song affected him by showing him that his Mother has always been there for him and that sometimes she goes unappreciated. It also made him realize that he should always feel proud of his mom for the sacrifices that she makes for him and his family. After he read, Joe said that he should find a way to relate the song to the time which he heard it and it first touched him.

Next Jake Roberts read the work that he had done so far. He started reading his first one, which one was about a book he read called hatchet in with grade. He described how it was the first book that he actually remembers enjoying. Jake talked about what the book was about and why it was so special. after he read it Joe and the other group members gave him feed back on how to make it better. Then he moved on to his next work that was about a motivational story. He used examples of when he needed extra motivation like when he was in an important track race where he ran a tough race. Then Joe and the group gave feed back and possible things to change.
