group 1 meeting

Our group discussion regarding our artifact papers was very informative.  Individually we went over every underlying aspect of potential flaw.  Did our papers read fluently? Were too many filler words used?   Did we specify?  As feedback was provided it became clearer and clearer that is no such thing as a “perfect paper”, and everyone’s writing style is unique.  We were all given criticism, but it was up to us to figure out what criticism we take, and what we choose to discard. Working together collaboratively we were able to give each person lots of great feedback about what we thought the strengths and weaknesses were on each of the segments. Most of us in the group found out what parts of the paper we need to elaborate more on and expand giving more detail and structure to our writings. Also by expanding the details on certain points were able to give the reader a better back drop and understanding of whole scene to make it feel like whoever is reading it is actually there, creating a thorough mental visual picture.

As a unit we were taught to not just write about the literal, but also the deeper underlying concept and story that came about through our artifacts.  What our artifacts meant to us, how they impacted us a certain point in our life, and the emotion that was brought forth with our artifacts.  Whether it was a writing assignment given to us at a young age or a rap song that influenced our lives, one thing was clear, our artifacts all meant something to us on a personal level.  A connection to self that we are trying to explain and can only express through our writing. It’s also pretty cool to get to know everyone in our group and learn each individuals writing style and theme. It can even help diversify our own pieces by seeing what other people need to work on, and asking ourselves, “maybe I can even work on that”. We learned through our group meeting that not only can we use own our feedback but listen to others and take it all into building a better paper to express our thoughts. Every writer can use as much proof reads as they can get because each time it will show more details you find you can work on or tweak to give a more specific paper.
