#LikeAGirl

When scrolling down the website hashtagfeminism.com, I came across a hashtag I recognized from numerous social media platforms and decided I would choose #LikeAGirl. I realized that I saw the famous commercial on Super Bowl Sunday and thought it had such a powerful message. Although I had seen the phrase on multiple occasions, I never researched it or looked into the meaning behind it. The concept of the video is to prove how outdated and sexist the term “you run/throw/hit like a girl” can be. Most of the time it is used jokingly, but it is still an insult to girls and their athletic capabilities. It has a profound effect on girls going through puberty and is show to weaken their self-confidence. We should strive to make Like A Girl an empowering and encouraging saying.  Always achieved their goal of raising awareness for the gender equality conflict and brought attention to a topic that needs to be written and talked about. The Dove Real Beauty Sketch video was really eye-opening in the fact that it highlighted how much scrutiny women place on their own appearance. Being able to watch the comparison of women viewing their body image, opposed to how others see them was really interesting. This just goes to show that writing comes in so many forms and when used correctly, can be used to have a major impact in society. Through this #LikeAGirl campaign, many have joined together and shared this hashtag to support and raise awareness towards this movement.
