#ToTheGirls

When I first read the hashtag #ToTheGirls I was compelled to click on it because, well I'm a girl and it interested me. After reading through the entire entry I felt like this was a great hashtag because it shines light on a positivity in social media rather than focusing on negative topics like many other hashtags today. It was created to encourage women to uplift each other through affirmative words and pieces of advice. It shows a side of writing that is helpful and can be spread worldwide through social media. By just simply typing #ToTheGirls on a social media site people everywhere have the ability to read, add to, and respond to this giant wave of positivity. During just one day this hashtag was used thousands of times. People wrote things like “#ToTheGirls There are no rules about how to be a girl, so whatever way you want to do it? YES. THAT'S THE RIGHT WAY.” This type of writing: casual and short, is very popular with today’s youth because it is simple and accessible. It allows people to share their thoughts and feelings at the click of a button and hopefully this type of encouragement through social media becomes a trend. Writing this way teaches us that even the simplest of sentences can have enormous impacts on our culture and society. It also exemplifies how one person can start a worldwide movement in positivity just by sharing one of their own ideas.
