Blog #1: Community
Communities exist all around us and in many different ways. There are communities in our hometowns, schools, and places of work. Although, more specifically, a community is anywhere you are surrounded by people who support you and help you through life's experiences. Some communities are not as close as others and one reason for that is communication. In strong, tight-knit communities there is always communication, usually in writing. In hometowns news letters are sent out and signs are posted to inform the community of upcoming events. For example, someone may hang "Lost Dog" signs around to ask others in the community to help them look for their missing pet or mail may be sent to homes to let people know about a town fair. When communities have strong communication skills everything is made easier. In the school-based community writing is prevalent in almost every aspect. Students write assignments for teachers and teachers write feedback. Teachers also give written handouts to students to explain assignments. Without writing in this type of community there would be no function. The working community operates much like the school community in terms of writing. Co-workers write to each other to exchange information about the business, they also write to their customers to update them on the latest news. Bosses write to their employees to give them schedules and instructions and employees reply with questions. In all of these communities writing is one of the building blocks for success. Without that relationship there would be many issues.
