I was introduced to hashtag a
little while ago; I was not sure what they were used for, until this project
and this blog. I have now learned that hashtag’s are meant for seriously
discussion topics. When I went on the website to find a hashtag, I ran across
this #LikeAGirl, and since I am a girl I thought this hashtag would be just
right for me. Women have it hard, always feeling self confident, never pretty
enough, and trying to be something that they are not. #LikeAGirl was made to
let women feel empowered and feel beautiful. There were many girls that tweeted
that women are much more beautiful than they think. The word ‘girl’ has bad
reputation, when people say “You run like a girl”, it insults all the women
athletes, as well as all the girls who are not athletes. When Always produced their Super Bowl ad,
people all around the world knew that it is humiliating to women, by saying
“like a girl”. It makes the girls/women feel week and they put themselves down.
From reading these tweets and how people use the hashtag #LikeAGirl,
I have learned what this hashtag is actually meant for. Young girls need to
feel like they are strong and empowered. I give credit to Dove, as they were the first one to start this campaign against
people saying “like a girl” quotes.
