Racism has come a long way in the last 100 years. As we take a look around the media its not too hard to find how it is actually still alive today in our society and everywhere. A good example of these problems is the recent Baltimore riots. What all started from a police brutality report where 6 police officers supposedly killed a young black male. Many people used the hashtag #BaltimoreUprising and posted pictures and tweets to show what was really going on in west Baltimore. Many other tags where used in positive ways that actually made a difference, for instance #BaltimoreLunch was used actively and helped kids get a meal which otherwise would leave them starving. These tags brought medias attention to the problem and soon its all over the world at the click of a button. Another popular hashtag used during that time was #BreakTheCurfew. Many whites and black would be out after curfew and when police asked the whites in the area they did it peacefully. When the blacks were asked to leaves they pepper sprayed some and forced them to the ground. #BaltimoreUprising was used to praise AG Lynch for making it a priority in office to make lives of blacks equal. These examples of writing made a huge difference in the lives of the people of Baltimore and even helped to save the city. When looking back at #BaltimoreUprising we can see two things coming from it, a city fighting for justice, and a movement for young black political figures in legislature. A movement towards equality for all regardless of color.
