Journal #1: Community on Writing

A community, in my opinion, is a congregation of beings with a mutual respect towards their residence. A community succeeds when each member adopts their individual niche in order to benefit the body. However, communities are not the whole of existence. They make up something that is far greater than a cooperative group. They create culture and personality. Depending on where someone grows up, they may lean towards different sides of the fence. One’s community molds their personality whether they like it or not. Living in New England for many years, I quickly gained a keen liking towards the game of baseball simply because my entire community played it. Once I moved to Miami, being the follower that I am, I quickly followed the crowd and began playing soccer. I simply wanted to fit in to the new community I was thrown into.
So what constitutes a thriving community? Thriving communities are, as you could conclude, the groundwork to a thriving nation and nowadays every nation strives to be a world power. Thus, we can’t do much but sit back and watch as the communities of today crumble before our eyes as we all work towards our individual success. Now I don’t blame individuals for wanting to be successful, but I do believe that they should realize that they are not the only light bulb in the tanning bed.

Now when it comes to writing, one’s community greatly affects their opinion. Despite how much one may claim to be original in their views, their surroundings always shift them. However not only one’s opinions are changed, but their entire way of speaking; Such as slang, grammar, or even their entire vocabulary.  Community and language have a direct correlation with each other so don’t feel embarrassed when you move to Tallahassee and start saying ‘ya’ll’ even though you’re from South Florida. One cannot escape the community they are put in and their style of writing/language will follow them wherever they go.
