Writing plays a major function in our lives. It motivates people, educates people, and is used a form of communication. Without writing, the world would not be where it is today. Writing teaches us history of things that have happened in the past. For example, if historians did not keep journals and records of things took place in the past 5 centuries, such as war and famine, we would have no clue what happened before us. Writing functions as a way for people to express thoughts and emotions. There is no main function to writing, because it does so many things in people in everyday life. As technology increases, writing does also. We are part of the information age. Although less people are physically writing by hand, it is being used in other ways. We should study writing in order to connect with the past, and learn from their writings. Writing allows you to express your thoughts on paper, and this allows other people to see them. Also when you are able to express your thoughts on to paper they are able to travel through time so to speak. When you have stuff written down it can be passed down to future generations. You can learn a lot from these writings because they are other people’s interpretations, and beliefs. Studying writing allows you to become a better writer yourself because you can pick up tricks from other writers. Writing is the most powerful tool in our society because it allows us to connect with one another, and if you do not know how to write than you are basically screwed. When people hear the question “how does writing work” they could respond with two different answers. One being about format and the other being about what should be written about. They are both entirely different questions but have almost the same answer. Writing does not work in a certain way. There is no set format that you are required to follow unless your teacher has told you to do so. For example, writing in a journal or diary probably isn't the same format that your teacher gives you to write a research paper for school. This can also be said about should or shouldn't be written about. We are the authors of our own papers and we are able to write however and about whatever we want. Writing helps people communicate all over the world and through different time periods. People use writing to document their experiences, important moments in history, and many other things. People also use writing to talk to people through texting, tweeting, facebooking, and other social media because writing does not have to be formal to be considered writing, everyday texts are considered writing. Writing teaches us about the past by showing how people lived during different time periods; it also teaches us about other cultures by showing how different people live and communicate all around the world. Writing helps everyone stay connected all around the world.
